The Generations Home Care Free In-Home Assessment | Generations Home Care
assessment

If you’ve been reading our blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed how often we mention our free in-home assessment. It comes up so often because the assessment is our way of introducing ourselves to potential new clients as we begin to learn more about each of their unique needs. So what does a Generations Home Care assessment look like?

We’ll Come to You

We begin by arranging a meeting in the place the client will receive care. This accomplishes two things. First, it helps us evaluate for safety and gives the client a comfortable place to get to know us. We’re open to including as many people as necessary in the assessment meetings. The evaluation can include just the client, immediate family only, or as many family members and friends they would like present. The more input we have the better. Every person involved can bring a unique perspective to the table and really help to create a great care plan.

There’s No Set Duration

The assessment can take as little as thirty minutes or as long as two hours. It really depends on how much information the client family would like to share. The questions we ask are simple and include things like, “do you need an assistive device?” or “do you need help dressing, showering, and preparing meals?” We’ll also ask questions about fall history and the client’s daily routines. These are all important questions that help determine the level of care necessary. But what is also important are the questions that come about as we get to know the family. We may ask, “how long have your mom and dad been together?” or “what did he do as a career” or “what were some of his hobbies?” These are the questions that will really provide insight into the person and help our caregiver to make a real connection.

We’ll Make a Personal Caregiver Match

As the visit goes on, the assessor will take careful notes and begin to match the client with caregivers they feel will fit well into the household. If the family decides to proceed that day, we’ll sign a service agreement and other forms that may be necessary to provide care. If the family chooses to take some time to consider we’ll follow up with a telephone call in a few days. It’s as simple as that!
